Sutton Housing Society supports diversity and upholds equal opportunities in all areas of its work as both an employer and service provider.
As our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy sets out, we expect everyone who works with or for the Society to uphold these principles. We aim to treat our employees and tenants with respect. We will ensure that equality, fairness, dignity and respect are central to the way that we work and carry out our duties. To enable us to do this we will:
- Respect and listen to our tenants and staff
- Review our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy on a regular basis to make sure it is working
- Tackle all forms of prejudice wherever and however it is found within the organisation and
- Train our staff on equality, diversion and inclusion
We work within the rules laid out in the Equality Act 2010 which consolidated all previous equality legislation and refers to nine protected characteristics for which discrimination, harassment and victimisation are prohibited. These are:
- Age
- Race
- Disability
- Religion or Belief
- Sex
- Sexual Orientation
- Gender Reassignment
- Marriage and Civil Partnership and
- Pregnancy and Maternity
