Holiday season is upon us – finally!
For those who are lucky enough to be going away and enjoying some much needed rest and relaxation or fun and adventure it is a very welcome thought. Many will have had them booked for months, for others, perhaps it is just a last minute booking. Of course, there are now ‘staycations’ when the time is taken off work but spent at home, either being with the family, visiting local attractions that you’ve never been to (because they are right on your doorstep!) or just being at home. Whichever way you do it, a holiday is a holiday and we love them.
At Glow, with clients like Southampton Airport, South West Trains and Lucketts Travel, our noses are constantly being rubbed into the delights that travelling has to offer. However, there is another kind of holiday that is creeping up as a very popular choice and it appears to being growing very fast as a preference.
Cruises, have gone from ‘my grandparents always go on a cruise for their holidays’ to ‘my parents went on a cruise once’ to ‘my friends go on cruises all the time’ to ‘maybe we should think about going on a cruise’!
But why have they become so popular over the recent years and how have they managed to attract a completely different market?
We are far more curious about the world now and our eyes have been opened via various means to the wonders that travelling can offer. A cruise offering several of these intriguing destinations in one inclusive package is very attractive. Everything is in one place, it is, in effect, a floating resort. You have your room, food, drink, entertainment, culture etc and it travels with you as you are carried from destination to destination.
But generations of people don’t just change their minds by themselves and it wouldn’t have happened overnight. It just goes to show how well thought out, clever marketing, has lifted the myth that cruises are just for the older generation. Challenging decisions were probably made, the money will have been paid and no doubt countless hours around a meeting table with the marketing team will have been spent. However, with more people than ever choosing to take to the sea, those marketing decisions and money invested has clearly been worth it.
To talk to someone about how clever marketing could change your business around, take a look at www.theglowstudio.com or give us a call 01329 836 390. In the meantime, we’ll be booking our next holiday!
Abi, our Operations Manager, seems to spend most of her holidays UNDER water , but she tells us plans are already afoot to spend her next holiday above the waves!
