Marketing Week Live – June 2014

One Marketing Week in Two Days

This week, at Olympia were two jam packed days as the Marketing Week Live (www.marketingweeklive.co.uk) exhibition drew in crowds of marketing, creative, digital and media gurus. Everyone was there from students just starting out in the marketing careers to worldwide corporate experts who have been in this field for decades.

Glow was lucky enough to spend the day wandering the stands, chatting to new suppliers and potential partners. There was also time to attend some of the many lectures that were happening all over Olympia at tightly scheduled slots throughout the day.

The talks were extremely well attended and sometimes the queues that ran around the corners created a real sense of intrigue. Curiosity….great marketing! Not all of the lectures were relevant to us but with 8 arenas to choose from, we could always find something that was. The talks ran on time but we got the impression that the speakers had to militarily stick to their time allocated time slots or something terrible was going to happen! Scaremongering….great organisation!
It is vital for us as marketers to keep up with the recent trends and stay one step ahead in our field. Learning new information and understanding where marketing is heading is how we keep our clients up to date and they rely on us to move them in the right direction. These are just a few of the titbits that we took away :

  • It’s important to use the analytics tools to get a better insight into how your website and social media is working
  • It is the number AND quality of twitter followers you have that is the key
  • Emotion is the trigger for successful marketing/social media campaigns
  • Remember multi-channel approaches to marketing
  • Ask your customers their challenges and what they need help with

Future marketing trends…

  • Marketing and media are merging, they are getting closer by the day
  • Content is pivotal – on all websites & social media
  • The content you do have will need to be far more accountable
  • The rise of the video – currently 25% of social media involves video and it’s climbing
  • Distribution will become increasingly important

It was comforting to learn that we are on the right lines and we are pushing the best practices to help our clients. By us attending such events, it means that our clients don’t have to, besides they’ve got far too much on their plates! This is what we know, that’s why we do it.
